Dunhill 1980 "Cumberland" Saddle Bit Apple
At the behest of pipe collectors, Dunhill recently reintroduced the Cumberland finish to the market after its brief initial run. This finish combined the variegated vulcanite bit of the original "Root" series with the sandblasted Sardinian briar bowl of the popular Tanshell, with very good results. This example is a nicely balanced apple shape, with rather good blast, a strong tubular shank, and an elongated, handcut saddle bit. We might agree that the bowl is a bit lumpy in outline, but at the same time has a definite rustic charm. Capacity is a medium Group 4, and the condition will generate no complaints.
