While I'm quite used to seeing certain artisan pipemakers branch out into olivewood or morta, this is, I must admit, the first strawberry wood pipe I've ever handled. Actually, if the search results of our archive are accurate, this may very well be only one of a handful of strawberry wood pipe we've had, period, the other having been a considerably larger freehand by Paolo Becker. While not quite as dense as briar, strawberry wood otherwise shares many similar traits - though it does tend to take a sandblast a bit differently, and that is something we see at play here in this very light little Billiard, with its sharp, well-defined, yet wildly varying grain pattern.
