Serienpfeifen » Charatan

Hallo,

bei den Modellen mit dem L (aus der Lane-Area);
habe ich gesehen das es Pfeifen gibt , die nicht das
Sattelmundstück haben. Es kann sein,das ein neues Mundstück
daran gekommen ist.
Ich habe aber welche mit der Reg.Nr. am Mundstück gesehen.
Kann das von Land zu Land verschieden gewesen sein??

Mit den Kautschuk-Mundstücken war es bei Ch. eh nicht so
weit her;was den Glanz betrifft. Es war zuviel Schwefel enthalten;
dadurch wurden Sie relativ schnell grau und Gelb.

Ich habe an 7 Pfeifen mir neue Mundstücke anfertigen lassen,
natürlich mit Sattel.

Wer kann weiterhelfen??

Hallo Manfred,
bei Charatan wurden die DC-Mundstücke (Sattelmundstück) und Mundstücke ohne Sattel angefertigt, das hat mit Lane-Aera nichts zu tun. Lane war ein Großhändler für Charatan in den USA, daher das L im Kreis.
Du kannst an der Pfeife erkennen ob sie ein Sattelmundstück haben müsste, dann Steht "DC" hinter der Shape-Nummer.
Ich muß mal meine Unterlagen durchsehen, vielleicht finde ich noch etwas über die Shapes von Charatan. Kann aber etwas dauern, da ich gerade umgezogen bin und mich leider verkleinern mußte. Die Kartonagen sind noch nicht alle ausgepackt.

Charatan "Selected Lane Era Dublin/Freehand

In the late '60's and early '70's, the Danish "freehand" style was taking the market by storm. Hermann Lane encouraged the Charatan carvers, never loathe to experiment, to incorporate similar design elements, especially in their higher-end pieces. This is one such. It has a dramatic Dublinesque bowl, and a stout tapered shank; and the rim has a rough top, reminiscent of the plateaux top of Danish freehand, but actually carved by hand to resemble the natural surface of the briar. Excellent color and grain, and very nice condition as well.

Charatan "Selected" Pre-Lane, Long-Shanked Volcano

A most unusual and imaginative pipe, especially given that it is more than 50 years old. It has a tall volcano bowl with flat bottom, and a long tapered shank whose shape is completed with an especially nice handcut taper bit that droops languidly toward the lip. The grain is first rate, though perhaps slightly looser and less parallel than one would expect for the grade. However, considering the beauty of the shape, I believe the grading is richly deserved. Color is rich, and condition is impeccable apart from the missing "CP" on the bit.

Charatan "Supreme" Large Billiard, Gold Band

A striking classic billiard of very large size, made following acquisition of Charatan by Dunhill. It reminds me very much of a pre-Lane pipe in the balance and simplicity of the design. The grain is certainly worth of the grade, and it's high-lighted by a thin 14K gold band. Double comfort bit, and in superb condition.

Charatan's Make Executive Bent Dublin (Extra Large) (City of London)
